June 4 - Environmental Service Project

Our agenda today started with a session talking about environmental awareness and led by Suzanne. The morning session took only 1.5 hours before we would have a environmental service project in in Muir Beach and have a tour in Muir Woods National Park.

After the session ended, we directly went to Muir Beach. We were welcomed by 3 staffs which were all girls. They explained the types of plant which lives in Muir Beach. Not all the plants are actually good. Some of them are only parasites, so they will just take all the nutrition that actually is not for them, but for the host plants. Our environmental service project was to help them cutting these parasites plant. These parasite plants grow fast in everywhere, so there a lot of them in the beach. Equipped with gloves, sickles, and a bucket, then each of us were ready to work. Before we jumped to the beach to cut all the parasites plant, the staffs showed us how to use the sickle safely. Then, we worked.

The girls help us for cut the parasites.

It took about 1.5 hours to finish this work. It is actually not completely finish yet, because there are still a lot of parasite plants in a very wide area. The work was done, and we took a rest in the area of beach. It was a little bit tiring, but we were happy as we did a good job.
